Collect walnut tree leaves for pigeons nesting material

The walnut trees dropped their dry leaves. It’s time to start collecting the leaves for next year’s pigeon nests.

The advantages of using these leaves in the loft are:
1. they keep the pigeon lice away
2. they have a very pleasant smell
3. they are free! (unless you want to buy tobacco sticks)

I think it’s better to remove the leaves and keep only the stems since the leaves would keep humidity in the nest. The sticks allow the wet droppings of the youngsters to fall and they also allow a good ventilation of the nest.

It doesn’t matter, as long as they are not very long or very short… you will notice the right dimension preferred by pigeons. Usually, try to trim them to the size that fits well in the nest you use.
